Break the pattern 02/20/2012
You're arriving home, evening time. It's been a trying day. You go into the house, greet the family, and find yourself in the kitchen. The fridge is like a magnet, a huge, habitual magnet, drawing you to it without your even being aware of it. The power of this magnet is emmense. And it's nothing to do with hunger. It's to do with conditioning, habit, the usual. Before you realise it, you're halfway through some handy snacks and you're searching for the rest. And all this while your dinner is being got ready from the oven. Which in itself, started some months ago, now acccounts for the tight waistband, the rounding over the belt, the tightnesss of the collar. WHAT CAN YOU DO? Try this. Break the pattern. Open the fridge door, close it. Do that again. And again. Now sing to the family for 20 seconds, full voice, no restrictions on the volume. Now do 10 squats in the middle of the kitchen. Run up the stairs and back down again. Four times. By which time your dinner's on the table. And the family have gone into hiding. And your problem now is to recapture the peace, harmony and happines that has been your home life to this minute. Which is ok too as you've changed the pattern of coming home and in the door. And your mind is in a different mode as you arrive. You'll be keen to let the family know you're ok and they don't have to hide, run away or call the people in the white coats. So you make a different entrance. You feel different about how you are, think and behave. So next time give everyone a hug and a kiss and spend 2 minutes asking them about their day and another 2 minutes listening. Resolve to do this for 28 days, with just the occasional opening/closing of the fridge door, or just a quick trip halfway up the stairs and back. Remember, 28 days. Report back to me. Whatever you do , get started. On anything. Take the first step. Till then, nothing can happen. Don't worry about what steps to take after that. They'll become apparent as you move along. But get started, get round the first bend. The rest of the road will be there. Bon voyage. Keep it simple 03/28/2011
Simple things, simply done, but with some verve, interest and enthusiasm, are what often make the difference between success and failure. Hurling, sport and breath 03/01/2011
The rhythm of movement, in dance, in music, in the very pronunciation and expression of our words, is testament to the power and munificence of our breathing patterns. Small change 02/25/2011
A small change. You don't have to turn life upside down. You don't have to become a recluse, wear a hairshirt, sackcloth. Typically, a few small changes here and there, carried out, can make a BIG difference. But know this; if your activity isn't supporting your aims, you do need to make the couple of changes in your activity, a bit here, a bit there. That's all. But it needs to be done. An interesting observation..........someone said that the three spring things would be difficult to do..........what do you think? Three Spring Things 02/16/2011
Three tried and trusted things to do for your health for the coming Spring. 1. Breathe deeeply and often. Every day do this. 2.Walk 5 minutes from your home or workplace. Then turn and walk back. Breathe deeply as you walk. That's a total of 10 minutes vigorous and refreshing natural exercise. 3. Get to bed at an early hour three nights a week, no tv, no loud music. Treat yourself to a mind resting/fictional/self indulgent read, where your mind gets pleasantly absorbed and your body gets a pleasant rest. Do this for three weeks. See how you feel. let me know. The essence of life is breath. This will probably be the main and fundamental premise of this blog..............but who knows what the future holds? And who's to say what's absolute? This is only my own personal belief in what is the fundamental principal of being healthy and well. And I've had many positive instances of evidence to substantiate that belief. You may well say that I've seen those evidences because I've looked for them. But would you refute what I believe? And why not ? Your opinion 's yours, mine, mine. And maybe we can share beliefs, opinions, ideas. So, what would your fundamental principal be for the improvement of life? Where would you start? New website 10/09/2009
